Some of My Favorite Teenagers Are…
December 2nd, 2008
Members of the Tualatin High School Choir(s)!
Yes, yes, I know—all three of mine are or have been members. So, yeah—they’re my favorites! But I really enjoy their friends, too! (Many of them are regular guests at our dinner table.) They’re amusing amazing, talented & hard-working. And they’ve been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall—yes, that Carnegie Hall. I’m writing about them today because they need your help.
As you may imagine, the trip from Oregon to NY is pricey, the hotel is pricey, and of course, feeding teens is pricey. (I know!) In order to make such journeys more accessible to all students, the district limits the amount of money paid by each student to $800. For this particular venture, that leaves a remaining sum of $1200 per student that must be fund-raised (somewhere in the vicinity of $120,000 total).
For those of you with students, you can well-imagine that this is a huge effort being undertaken by the students, parents & community. Just last weekend, the choirs performed for and served 200 guests at their Madrigal Dinner. (Of course, I was in the kitchen assisting Chef Jane prepare and plate the food!) It’s my understanding that the choir raised over $4000 with that event. That’s great! But we still have a ways to go.
Now, I know times are tough. In fact, I’m the first to say if you can only donate one place—send it to your local food bank—no one should go hungry. But, if you have even a little bit left to give, and you’d like to support the arts, please consider donating to the TuHS Concert Choir. Your contribution is tax-deductible.

Told you I was partial! Zach’s now graduated—his choir trip was to the 400th anniversary of Jamestown, VA. His sister, Marjorie, will be in the Concert Choir group performing at Carnegie Hall this spring. Thanks for your interest & support!
